VeteransBeginning Monday evening November 13, Vermont PBS brings you two stories about the effects of war...one modern, one historical...one national, one local.
Death in the Wilderness: A Love Story
Capt. George Davenport of the 5th Vermont Regiment was fatally wounded on, May 5th, 1864, in the Battle of the Wilderness, and hastily buried in a Virginia cornfield. A year later his young widow Frankie from Brandon set out in search of his body, but finding her husband was only the beginning of her story. For the rest of her life she devoted herself to the memory of Vermont's soldier dead - above all to the idea that the Union cause had been a moral one.
POV - Almost SunriseIn an attempt to put haunting combat experiences behind them, two friends embark on an epic 2,700-mile trek on foot across America, seeking redemption and healing as a way to close the moral chasm opened by war. Almost Sunrise is an intimate, vérité film that eschews stereotypes and instead captures an unprecedented portrait of veterans — one of hope, potential and untold possibilities.
