Paint This With Jerry Yarnell

Evening Glow, Part 2

Series Website »
Episode Guide »
In this episode, Jerry sketches in the cabin and then scumbles in the distant snow values using dry brush blending and using layering to create snow highlights. Next Jerry adds the mid-range tree line behind the cabin which adds contrast to the painting. Moving to the middle ground, the snow is again dry-brush blended into the land mass, while adding a few highlights. Using the script brush, details are added to the mid-canvas trees behind the cabin, creating overlapping limbs and good use of negative space. Next, the cabin is seated in the landscape. Moving to the foreground, the snow is added with more definitive highlights according to the value system. The session ends by completing highlights on the cabin and detailing the snow glow to create the ambiance of late-evening glow.
