Paint This With Jerry Yarnell

Turquoise River, Part 4

Series Website »
Episode Guide »
This last session is all about final highlighting. Starting with the shoreline debris and using a thin glaze with a chisel-edge brush, Jerry scumbles along to create the logs and limbs along the shoreline. Switching to the No. 4 bristle brush, Jerry highlights the rocks to take them up a notch. Next, Jerry highlights the foreground pines with a nice light and bright touch. The river is the focus of the painting, and slivers of highlights are added with a very light touch, creating a sunlit glow in the water using elliptical shapes. Next, Jerry uses the No. 4 round sable and pure white to add the final highlights to the water, creating masses by using a series of dots. Do it right, and the painting will pop. The final details are up to you to complete the painting with a personal touch.
