Preview and discuss The Powerbroker by Bonnie Boswell.
During the 1950s and 60s, civil rights leader Whitney Young navigated a divided society. He challenged America's white business and political leaders directly, but his efforts to open the doors for equal opportunity were often attacked by Black Americans who felt his methods were in contrast with the Black Power Movement of the time.

Screening of excerpts from the PBS miniseries The Abolitionists: American Experience.
Abolitionist allies Frederick Douglass, William Lloyd Garrison, Harriet Beecher Stowe, John Brown and Angelina Grimké turned a despised fringe movement against chattel slavery into a force that literally changed the nation.
The screening will be followed by a panel discussion. A panel of historians (Jane Williamson, Ray Zirblis, and Lyn Blackwell) will conduct a lively discussion about the abolition movement in Vermont, placing our state in a national context.
The event is free and open to the public.
