Description:

The most shameful and best-kept secret in the U.S. Military is the epidemic of rape and sexual assault within the rank.  An American female soldier in a combat zone is more likely to be raped by a fellow soldier than killed by enemy fire.  Rape victims in the military must turn to their commanders – a move that is all too often met with foot-dragging at best, and reprisals at worst.  The result is few prosecutions and systematic isolation of women who dare report the crimes.

This event is free and open to the public.

At 8pm, following the screening, audience members will be invited to discuss the issue and the services for survivors available in Vermont.  Panelists will include Rep. Helen Head, D-South Burlington, chair of the General, Housing and Military Affairs committee, Vermont House of Representatives; Lt. Angela Lakey, sexual assault response coordinator, Joint Force Headquarters, Vermont National Guard; BriGette McCoy of Atlanta, Ga., Army veteran, military sexual trauma survivor and founder/CEO of Women Veterans Social Justice; and Rebecca Robinson, military sexual trauma coordinator, White River Junction VA Medical Center.  Kristin Carlson will moderate.

This discussion will be streamed live online and accompanied by an online chat.
